Title: Peace Pilgrimage from Jeju 4.3 through Kyoto Peace Museum into Hiroshima Peace Park

Author: AeDuck Im, Lecturer, Jeju National University, South Korea

Abstract: I got to know Jeju 4.3 history through my father's memory paintings, and through Professor Roy Tamashiro from Webster University, I was able to take peace pilgrimages to Kyoto Peace Museum and Hiroshima Peace Park. Through this pilgrimage, as explained in Mezirow’s Transformative Learning Theory, I was able to critically reflect the frames of references that were formed in me when I was young. I could reflect the values, nationalistic feelings, and regionalism formed within me. If we overcome these limitations in ourselves, disasters such as Jeju 4.3 or any war and the A-bombing in Hiroshima can be avoided. Finally, this peace pilgrimage can transform our ethnocentric habit of mind by changing point of view and critically reflecting my bias and accepting other people as humans instead of another nationality.
